Celebrate in Cabo just like Jen Aniston

February 15th, 2010

Cabo San Lucas has long been known for its famous arch, “El Arco,” a breathtaking natural stone wonder that marks the end of the Baha California Peninsula.  Los Cabos welcomes more than one million visitors annually.  Visitors come to fish in the “world’s aquarium” as it was christened by Jacques Cousteau.  Others come to play one of the many championship golf courses, whale watch, snorkel or dive.  Most vacationers come for the beautiful beaches and the sun, sun, sun.

Los Cabos, located at the tip of the narow Baja California penninsula, almost 1,000 miles southeast of San Diego.  It is Mexico’s fastest growing destination for la Bena vida, that “good life” we all seek and desire.  Cabo San Lucas, the port at the peninsula’s tip, known as Land’s End, is approximately 20 miles southwest of the sister city San Jose del Cabo and 27 miles from the Los Cabos International Airport.

Cabo San Lucs has attracted many celebreties for various reasons:  Fergie and Josh Duhemel became engaged in Cabo, Jack Black and wife Tanya Hayden enjoyed couple’s time, Jessica Alba flew down for a little R&R after the birth of her daughter Honor, and on again/off again couple, Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson were also spotted swimming in the Sea of Cortés.  Kate Beckinsale and her director husband Len Wiseman boogie boarded and went snorkeling, while Pink and Carey Hart played a round of golf. In fact, the area boasts plenty of world class golf courses including the Jack Nicklaus–designed El Dorado, which has been played by Tiger Woods and Fred Couples.  Jennifer Aniston just celebrated her 41st birthday in Cabo with her favorite buds Courtney Cox and hubby David Aquette, Sheryl Crow, and her Scottish main squeeze Gerald Butler.

Cabo offers many great villa rentals in spectacular resorts such as the privately owned villas at VIlla La Estancia.  These Cabo rentals offer privately owned luxury villas on the swimmable Medano Beach.  The resort offers 1, 2, 3  and 4 bedroom villas as well as glorious penthouse options.  Why stay in a hotel room when you can relax in a luxury villa overlooking the Sea of Cortez.  Contact Cabo Luxury Lifestyle for more details.

Cabo San Lucas…in the beginning

December 7th, 2009

Francisco de Ulloa was credited with first discovering Cabo San Lucas in 1537. The Sea of Cortez was named after Hernan Cortez.  Cabo quickly became a busy trading port and stopover for pirates. British and Dutch ships often enjoyed the treasures that the Spanish ships were trying to take back to Spain.

The Spanish treasure-galleon, the “Great St. Anne,” was captured off Cape St Lucas by Sir Thomas Cavendish November 14, 1587, prompting King Phillip II of Spain to establish a small fortress at Cabo San Lucas to try to rid the waters of “undesirables.”

The establishment of a fort at Cabo San Lucas helped open up the area to exploration. Settlements along the Baja began to spring up as pearls were discovered in the Sea of Cortez. In 1730 a Jesuit mission, Jose del Cabo, was established to the north. Together, the two towns became known as Los Cabos (the capes). However, Cabo San Lucas remained largely undeveloped having no steady water supply.

The population of Cabo San Lucas was still around 400 by the 1930’s when it started to become know as a sports fishing haven. It was accessible only by small plane, long range yacht, or anyone willing to travel 1000 miles of rutted dirt “roads” to get there.

After World War II, word started spreading around Southern California’s elite and Los Cabos became a playground for the rich and famous. By 1950, Bing Crosby, Phil Harris, Desi Arnaz, and The Duke had built the exclusive hotel Las Cruces on the East Cape. More development followed.

In 1974, with Cabo’s population at around 900, the peninsular highway was built and Los Cabos started to become accessible to middle America. Mexican architecht Manuel Díaz Rivera purchased 250 acres, which would become the home development known as Pedregal. Marlin fishing tournaments began drawing international attention and Fonatur, the Mexican tourist agency along with international developers, began to pour money and resources into the region. Construction of an international airport in San Jose Del Cabo, a modern 300-slip marina and a fresh water pipeline to Cabo San Lucas have ignited the current boom.

Today, sportsmen continue to flock to Los Cabos for world-famous fishing, outstanding diving, and game bird hunting. However, the area now also draws families, beach lovers, honeymooners, and golfers. Huge investments in golf courses have been made in the 30 kilometer “Corridor” between Cabo San Lucas and Jose del Cabo. There are 108 holes already open, with a master plan calling for an eventual 207 holes. The dramatic course layouts, built by some of golf’s premier designers, take full advantage of the region’s striking landscape. Cabo Luxury Lifestyle will help you arrange activities and services during your stay in Cabo.

Cabo San Lucas boasts dozens of fine restaurant, shopping, a marina, and an active nightlife. Accommodations are first-class and feature some of Mexico’s finest properties. Cabo Luxury Lifestyle offers visitors private villa options at Villa La Estancia Resort in Cabo, as well as other cabo rentals such as private homes and condos and villas in Los Cabos.  With miles of pristine beaches, beautiful scenery, and almost perfect weather, it’s no wonder that Los Cabos is fast becoming the ultimate resort destination.

All Souls Day at Villa La Estancia

November 9th, 2009

In Mexico, November 1st is known as the All Saints Day and November 2nd as All Souls Day.  Each is marked by a plethora of intriguing customs that vary widely according to the ethnic roots of each region. Common to all, however, are colorful adornments and lively reunions at family burial plots, the preparation of special foods, offerings laid out for the departed on commemorative altars and religious rites that are likely to include fireworks. All Souls Day Commemoration, which was celebrated on November 2, is an important tradition in the Mexican culture where families decorate elaborate altars in memory of deceased family members. Villa La Estancia Resort in Cabo enjoyed a personal celebration.

This past Monday an altar making contest took place in the Villa La Estancia resort garden, just outside the main lobby. There were six teams participating, each one representing a different department of the Villa La Estancia in Cabo resort. Teams set up altars paying tribute to famous and beloved Mexicans from the past.  After admiring all the altars and listening to the explanations given by Ramon Segura, Pool Butler at Villa La Estancia, the Jury decided that the winning altar was the one set up by the Food and Beverages department of Villa La Estancia in Cabo, which paid tribute to Emiliano Zapata, a leading figure in the Mexican Revolution.

Villa La Estancia in Cabo is a luxury resort located on Medano Beach.  All villas are privately owned and often available for luxury vacation rentals in Cabo San Lucas.  Cabo Luxury Lifestyle offers travelers luxury rentals at Villa La Estancia, as well as other homes and villas in the Los Cabos area.  Contact Cabo Luxury Lifestyle for Cabo luxury villas rates at Villa La Estancia or other private home rentals in Cabo.

Airlines add new fees for Holiday Travel

October 7th, 2009

Airline travelers beware…holiday travel just got more expensive.  Delta, United, Northwest, American, Continental and US Airways has added $10 surcharges for busy days around the holidays, making days that already tended to be expensive to fly a little more costly.

Last month airlines added a $10 each-way surcharge for Nov. 29 (the Sunday after Thanksgiving) and Jan. 2 and 3.  Recently, FareCompare.com CEO Rick Seaney notes that the same airlines have added 10 more days: Nov. 30; Dec. 19, 26, and 27; March 14, 20, 21, 28; April 11; and May 28.   Seaney said discounters such as Southwest and JetBlue appear to be avoiding the surcharges.

The main carriers into Cabo San Lucas include:  Delta, American, United, Continental and US Airways.  Cabo has become an increasingly popular destination site during the Holiday Season, largely due to the sunny and pleasant climate.  Cabo has been called the playground for vacationers interested in water and land activities, restaurant and nightlife, spa experiences, golfing and tennis, whale watching and scuba and snorkeling.
