New Pass ID Legislation passed in Senate

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

A new PASS ID legislation was passed in the US Senate by Senator Daniel Akaka of Hawaii.  The PASS ID is designed to expedite travel in the US.  Following today’s passage of the “PASS ID” legislation (S. 1261) by the U.S. Senate Homeland Security Committee, U.S. Travel Association president and CEO Roger Dow issued the following statement:

“Replacing Real ID requirements with ‘PASS ID’ will ensure that air travel in 2010 is uninterrupted, as U.S. citizens will be able to board planes with their existing drivers’ licenses while states come into compliance with new drivers’ license standards.

“U.S Travel thanks the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Chairman Lieberman and Ranking Member Collins for wisely addressing the potential chaos that would result from the Real ID law as it stands. Many U.S. states had rejected Real ID and were unlikely to comply with the national drivers’ license requirements. Based on the current law, millions of U.S. travelers would either be barred from boarding U.S. flights or forced to undergo additional screening by TSA.

“We encourage Congress to act quickly in favor of this common sense legislation.”  Let’s hope Congress can get a new Health Bill passed before the end of the year!

“I am ecstatic to finally introduce Las Vegas to the Cabo Wabo lifestyle,” remarked     Cabo Wabo founder Sammy Hagar. “The cantina’s fun-loving, fiesta atmosphere         will bring a rock and roll vibe to the heart of the Strip like people have never seen        before. We are going to rock the Vegas Strip!”Cabo resident rocker, Sammy Hagar,  is opening a second Cabo Wabo Cantina this fall at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.  According to the VAN HALEN News Desk, SAMMY HAGAR’s infamous bar and  rock ‘n roll hotspot, Cabo Wabo Cantina, is set to open in the Miracle Mile Shops at  Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas in the fall of this year. Cabo Wabo  Cantina offers a blend of live music and coastal Mexican cuisine served up all day and night, for a party that rocks into the early morning.

We are going to rock the Vegas Strip!”

The food and cocktail menus will feature much of the same items as the original cantina in Cabo San Lucas, including traditional and contemporary selections inspired by the fresh seafood and local fare of Cabo. The cocktail menu will place heavy emphasis on Sammy’s spirit of choice, tequila, and will feature margaritas and other refreshing beverages perfect for cooling off in the desert.

Hagar is a professional rock & roller, club owner, and a seasoned “Tequilla Taster” with a passion for party. Sammy’s accolades include the journey as singer/songwriter for Van Halen for 11 years in the 80’s and 90’s, a successful solo career and an early stint with Ronny Montrose.  Ronnie Montrose played guitar with popular artists such as Herbie Hancock, Van Morrison, The Beau Brummels, Boz Scaggs and the Neville Brothers.  His total record sales exceed over 60 million records sold when combined with the  various rocker experiences.

Sammy opened The Cabo Wabo Cantina, the most rockin’ club in the world, in 1990 in Cabo San Lucas. The canitina later became the inspiration for what is now one of the most recognizable tequila brands in the world, Cabo Wabo Tequila. The video for the 1999 hit song, “Mas Tequila” was filmed there.  He plays at the Cabo club during his annual “Birthday Bash” every year.  The Birthday Bash is scheduled for October 8th-9th and the 12th-13th this year.  He has opened other night clubs in Lake Tahoe, Fresno and “Sammy’s Beach Bar and Grill in Harrah’s Casino in St. Louis.

Airfares increasing for the Holidays

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Travelers beware…you need to plan ahead in these tough economic times.  Airlines recently announced they will be cutting the number of flights and seats during the holidays.  Louie Thiele, co-host of News/Talk 92.3 KTAR Travel Show says now is the time to purchase tickets for Thanksgiving and Christmas too.

“Get your advanced booking in there, get the seat and the flight you want,” said Thiele, “because, believe me, when you get right in front of the holiday-Thanksgiving, Christmas, whatever-planes are going to be booked up full.  There’s just not going to be that much choice…You may think that some lower fare is going to come along, but the airlines are pretty intent on reducing capacity to keep fares where they are and to increase them if they could.”

The airlines have experienced a drop in business travel and are trying to keep fares from dropping by cutting the number of planes flying.  This will translate into fewer non-stops.

Jennifer Anniston & Friends Vacation Cabo

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

The Christmas and New Year’s Holiday seems soooo far away.  After all, it is  summertime and most areas in the US enjoy the warmer, sunnier days.   It is  never too early to plan for the holiday season.  Why not come to Cabo San Lucas, just as Jennifer Anniston, Courtney Cox, Cheryl Crow, Laura Dern, John Mayer and spouses did this past January?  Courtney and Jen spend often spend the holidays together and Courtney  brought her family along for the Cabo fun. Maybe they will make Cabo their  annual holiday get together.

Cabo is a great holiday spot that enjoys great weather with average temperatures in the 70’s and 80’s.  There is plenty of sun and sand as well as restaurants, nightlife, water activities (snorkeling, scuba diving, whale watching, sailing, boat cruises), zip lining, golf, tennis, fishing, spa services and fun, fun, fun.

Mexico commended in handling of H1N1

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

Mexican tourism has suffered greatly over the past year, largely due to the H1N1 outbreak.  They have been recognized for their swift handling of the outbreak earlier this year.  Just how effective Mexico’s draconian response was will take some time to determine, because scientists will have to compare what was done with what might have happened had the country done nothing, said Nancy Cox, who leads the influenza division of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“However, they were so courageous to do what they did. It impressed the entire world,” Cox said.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon also faced resistance at home — he said some state officials wanted to hide the numbers for fear it would cause panic, but he overruled them. Mexico’s toll has since risen to 10,687 cases, including 119 deaths.

“For many people across the world, Mexico was demonized precisely because it was providing truthful information,” Calderon said.

The national shutdown in Mexico prompted Cuba and Argentina to cancel flights to Mexico and left a stigma that still hurts Mexico’s all-important tourism industry. But Calderon said Mexico’s reaction “allowed other countries to take preventive measures or activate their emergency programs.”

Mexico’s public health system also was overwhelmed initially, as doctors struggled to figure out how to fight the strange new virus.
